Last evening was pretty exciting at the second edition of YourStory’s flagship tech event – Future of Work – which saw over a thousand technologists and experts participate in discussions around product and advanced topics in engineering.
Our founder, Talvinder Singh, shared his experience in this domain and beautifully explained the 100 KPIs that a Product Manager must know.
This talk covered the various product metrics that a Product Manager must track depending on what domain he’s in and importance of choosing of selecting the right ones. This was followed by the what KPIs are and the method of selecting a SMART KPI (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Repeatable, Timely)
Few tips that I especially loved:
- It’s important not to have too many. Select your North Star metric (and 1-2 more if needed, but not any more) – it’s important that everyone is putting efforts in the right direction and moving the right needle
- Measures are mainly of two types: “Outcome” and “Driving” measures or in other words “Lagging” and “Leading” metrics
- Most importantly – You’d hear a lot around this topic and you can pick up a lot of advice on the way, please do. But remember, only YOU can find out which metric matters for your startup.
