Stephen, an ex-Google Product Manager, and a product enthusiast, currently works on coaching aspiring Product Managers realize their dream jobs. Stephen has spent over 5 years in the Product Management arena. Stephen is also a strong believer and proponent of mental health awareness amongst people.
We invited Stephen to walk us through product management and provide tips to ace a product management interview. The session was interactive and informative. Stephen began the session by giving a sneak peek into the thinking process that product managers should typically follow when brainstorming solutions.
The first question of the evening was in regards to the expectations of junior or associate roles Product Managers. Having started in Product Management during his junior year as an Associate Product Management Intern at Google, Stephen was able to provide an in-depth knowledge of the skill sets required in junior or associate Product Management positions.
He then moved on to tackle one of the biggest controversial questions of our time – What is the difference between project management and product management roles? As a former product manager at Google, this question was right up his alley. He began the answer by first explaining the key ideas behind project and product management. He then moved onto explain the roles of a project manager and a product manager in detail. He further went on to mention that one of the biggest hurdles that PMs face is prioritizing and organizing responsibilities.
He ended the evening by mentioning one should choose the track they wish and desire to be in. By giving everyone a small, yet potent insight into product management, helped everyone to start thinking of the future.
