I have got valuable work experience, have completed numerous projects, have updated my resume but still not getting any calls for interviews

1. How to Get Shortlist Ready for your Dream companies?

Perfect Fit for Your Career

The Perfect Fit course takes the learner on a journey to identify themselves, realize where they stand regarding the twelve critical product skills and then amalgamates all to produce an opportunity priority list as their target board, scientifically. It enables the learner to build his digital assets and performance oriented artefacts -Resume, Profile and Portfolio, to sail through the applicant tracking systems and other screening processes.

The Priority list of the companies is a critical asset to list down the companies that one should target which are aligned with his past background and also his/her skill set.

However, what is important to understand over here is that this will remain an iterative process and constant communication and feedback from the Learner to the placement team and mentor on his/her shortlists is extremely critical so that the PL mentors can help diagnose the reasons and also the corrective action that needs to be taken.

After completing the Perfect Fit course, it is mandatory for learners to upload their Resume and Priority List of companies in the Workflow, and follow the PL mentor guidelines in building up a well-crafted resume to ensure maximum short lists.

Resume Review, Portfolio approval etc all require a step-by-step methodical approach, multiple reviews, iterations and check-ins. And Workflows is the platform which will handle all of it.

1. In total, the following submissions are required to get your Shortlist Ready-

  • Resume and Priority List of Companies
  • Profile
  • Portfolio

2. Upload all these submissions in the respective tabs of the Workflow-This form will initiate a review flow which will go through two levels of Approval. The reviewer mentor will take action on your entry typically within 48-72 hrs of submission. Do not re-submit this form till the workflow ends for the first submission. After submitting this form, look out for the email notifications with the updates on the process and the status of your submission
3. Once approved, share these assets with the placement team.The placement team will map the companies basis this priority list of the companies, and share with you the list of the organizations that best suit

We strongly believe that Workflows will make it easier and quicker for you to get Shortlist Ready.

2. How to apply for jobs using PL network?

Truejobs

  1. This job is posted on all job platforms including Truejobs and the company is in the partner network of Pragmatic Leaders
  2. Since this job is in the partner network of Pragmatic Leaders, if your profile matches the job requirements, we will try to leverage our connections and put in a good word for your profile while applying for the job. Just let us know when you apply to these jobs, by using Truehike.
  3. Companies are sometimes in a hurry to fill up a position and so they will post in all places
  4. Because you are in PL network, we will ensure that you get seen by the company if you are interested in them

PL Preferred Partner:

  1. This job may be available on multiple job boards apart from Truejobs and the company is in the preferred partner network of Pragmatic Leaders
  2. Although the job may be available at multiple job boards, the company prefers our candidates over others. So if your profile matches the job requirements, we recommend you to apply for this job on Truejobs or elsewhere and let us know. You will get a preferential treatment and you have a good chance of getting shortlisted

If in case, you apply outside of our job board, you need to create a job card on Truehike so that the placement team is aligned on your journey and can accordingly connect with relevant stakeholders.

3. What to do in case of no shortlists?

Let us discuss the answer to your question- What do I do if I am not getting any/appropriate shortlists even after updating my Resume as per the Perfect Fit course guidelines?

If you are not getting calls, don’t feel dis-heartened but don’t even hold up for long. In case of no shortlist despite applying to more than 15 companies, reach out to the PL placement team so that the required mentor support can be aligned to identify the gaps, re-evaluate and work for a better alignment.

Let us look at the 3Cs which need to be aligned to have a good shortlist ratio:

In order to have a good shortlist ratio, it is critical to have a sync between these 3Cs.

Collection of assets – Resume, profile and portfolio are a representation of yourself, what you have done so far and what you are capable of doing in your future career. And thus it is imperative to map this with your target companies. 

If you are not getting shortlists you need to retrospect with your mentor where is the anomaly:

1. Is it that you are applying to wrong companies which are not aligned with your past work experience/ skill set
or
2. Is it that you are applying to wrong companies which are not aligned with your past work experience/ skill set with the company’s expectations.

4. How to find out which Jobs are Truefit for you?

Truefit Match

A common piece of feedback that we received from learners is that it is difficult to identify which jobs are most relevant for them. Relevancy of job with candidate’s profile comes from two aspects, competency match and preference match. While preference match (salary is as expected, location is favorable, sector is aligned and so on) is easy to identify and filter on, we figured that competency match is hard to identify. This is one of the primary reasons due to which despite having an awesome CV, one maybe struggling with getting shortlists.
You can now find out which Jobs are True-fit for you and how well you match the skills and competencies needed for your desired Product Role

Follow these simple steps to view your Truefit matches:

  1. Visit the “Truefit Match” page(https://truemerit.io/my-truefit-pm-role/) from the left panel menu on the Home page
  2. Click on “Assess Competencies” to self-assess your competence
  3. Select the role you are preparing for and fill in the assessment form
  4. Submit the form to view your result
  5. Update your entry fortnightly to view improvement in your matches
  6. To find out relevant jobs based on your competence assessment, visit Truejobs
  7. You will find your Truefit Match on job cards and a detailed result in the job details

This enables you to focus on the relevant job opportunities and thus helping you increase the shortlist rate.

5. How to prepare for Job Interviews?

1:1 Booking

For those of you who have got the short-list but struggling with interviews – Don’t wait further and book a 1:1 appointment with your favourite PL mentors –https://truemerit.io/appointment/

It is strongly recommended that you book these calls on a weekly basis so as to maintain momentum and continuity. Each mentor might have a different approach and you can choose the mentor best based on his/her past background and career journey if that is aligned with yours.

The purpose of these calls could be career roadmap guidance, gap analysis, interview preparation, guidance on case assignments, mocks interviews, and retro discussions. You may not only seek interview prep support but also discuss your academic doubts using these 1:1 connects.

1:1 mentor support is one feature that has been extremely valued by a lot of our learners in making their transition.

Peer learning/cohort environment helps in emergence of diverse views and perspectives in solving the same problem and thus quite essential to have, esp. for training in PM roles as it eventually helps in building collaborative and anaytical skills. However, 1:1 mentor support has been exclusively added by PL to enable its learners to gain the advantage of interacting with different senior industry mentors and getting valuable insights aligned with their specific career backgrounds and learning requirements. 1:1 session bookings further helps the learner to accelerate his/her journey of transition by removing the dependency on external factors and taking the ownership in one’s own hands.

And hence we believe that it is both the group sessions and 1:1 support put together that makes the entire learning experience enriching.

We are re-iterating here some of the important Guidelines on Resume Formatting as shared by our Principal Mentor- Mr. Talvinder Singh based on the Resumes being reviewed by him under the Workflows

  1. Do not use period at the end of bullet point
  2. No space before comma, only one space after comma
  3. Use black filled circle as bullet points, not any other
  4. Single column resume only. That is ATS friendly
  5. Passive voice only
  6. Quantitative impactful points
  7. Past tense only
